Therapy at a Distance

I first began doing therapy over the phone some years ago working with people who, as therapists, were familiar with Imaginal Nurturing and EMDR and wanted to work with me in these ways on their own personal issues. I was surprised to discover how deep and powerful this work can be even at a distance. I continue to work with therapists and others over the phone.

I am also open to using Skype, but have found that it tends to accentuate the distance in this kind of work. This is due to a number of factors. The image frequently pixellates, sometimes into abstraction. There is often a noticeable time lag between image and sound and the sound quality is usually inferior to that of a land-based phone and sometimes even a cell phone. Finally, the eye contact is awkward because the camera is not where the other's face is in the image. This is why when I have started working with someone via Skype, we have mutually agreed that phone would be preferable.

Therapy at a distance is not for everyone. But if you are interested, I have a questionnaire for you to fill out so I can get a sense of whether or not I feel I can be helpful to you in this way. My fee is $105 for 60 minutes. This includes phone charges (except for cell phone calls outside of North America). Please feel free to contact me by telephone at 250-753-2027 or email me at april@april-steele.ca to discuss the possibility of working together.
